I originally wrote this on June 20, 2020.
Long overdue on this writing. I created a number of tasks 4 or 5 weeks ago, or maybe even 6 weeks ago when I knew I wanted to do this project. The tasks are in my small notebook that my sister Sharon made for me a couple of years ago. The list feels like a "secret recipe" so I will only share a few of them at the moment.
I created a list of as many words I could think of at the time that are action words/verbs. This is only some of what I came up with: grasp, hold, trace, snuggle, caress, nudge, poke. The dancer's task is then to use different body parts, unexpected perhaps, to perform the action. We expect an elbow to nudge - make the choice to use the elbow to caress. One example. Trace lines on the back with a finger. Do you remember the childhood game of "criss-cross applesauce on the back." Sensations and chills. Step three: go back to the action words and imagine how they are done and how they feel at different times in your life. Holding my mother's hand at this stage in my life is very different then when I was 4 or 5. The same goes with a caress or a kiss. A kiss or caress on the forehead of a child is much different than with a lover/spouse/significant other.
